Welcome to Lithies Traditional Homes on the majestic island of Santorini! My family and I have spent years designing and building these homes using our passion and knowledge of Santorini so that our guests may enjoy the island as we have for our entire lives! Each home has been custom decorated by my wife, Anita, an art historian, and features first class amenities to provide guests with ample convenience. Ideal for both couples and families, the Lithies homes are flexible; larger parties may rent multiple homes to enjoy a piece of the island exclusively by themselves!
The term Lithiés (pronounced lee-thee-és) is a convention of the Nobel laureate poet, Odysseas Elytis. It reflects upon the way in which, since antiquity, celestial bodies and atmospheric phenomena have attained a mythical dimension amidst the brilliant pattern of color and light which adorns the splendor of Santorini. The mystery of dawn and sunset, the wind and clouds have helped to form the genius loci, the pervading spirit of a place. The Lithiés homes capture the spirit of the island, echoing the poetic verse 'dry stone walls (the Greek word "lithiés") and sea waves hand in hand' from Elytis' The Axion Esti.

 AREA INFORMATION
Nestled in scenic Firostefani, the Lithiés homes reside 1400ft above sea level under the gaze of the marvelous Aegean sun. Firostefani is one of the finest examples of Mediterranean vernacular, embracing a spectacular natural landscape. In this magnificent architectural scenography, the Lithiés houses grapple onto the long sloping lines of the majestic cliff of the caldera, articulating a composition of white structures against the black volcanic rock. A ten minute walk from the main town of Fira and a 15 minute drive from the airport, Firostefani provides guests with an elegant setting that is also convenient.

ROOM INFORMATION
The houses, built in the local vernacular, are spacious grottos tunneled into the sheer multicolored cliffs of the caldera, their façade slightly protruding from the edge of the cave. They appear to grow naturally out of the rocky landscape, which is set against a sweeping expanse of sea and sky. The homes are secluded, accessible via a stepped walkway, yet are well integrated into the town of Firostefani. Bordering the edge of a blue-tiled pool is a generous terrace that links all three homes and offers sweeping views of the caldera and the volcano.
